Composer and Butte College alumnus, Jonavin Thao, returns to Butte College on October 27 at 7 p.m. for an intimate performance at the Butte College Art Gallery. His performance will be the first in a series of gallery recitals to pair musicians and artists.
Thao's performance coincides with artist Elizabeth Lee's current exhibit, "Piecing it Together." Both artists are Hmong Americans and explore their individual experiences through their chosen art forms.
Thao was born and raised in Oroville, California. He earned an associate degree for transfer in music for Transfer from Butte College and currently attends CSU, Chico, where he is working towards his degree in general music with a focus on composition. His compositions "An Encounter" and "Remember" depict his experience through the COVID-19 pandemic.
