College Ranked One of the Top Best College Farms in the United States

     Best College Reviews has published a ranking of the 20 Best University Farms in America- and Butte College was ranked #5.

     From small student-run organic farms, to large agribusiness training centers and entrepreneurial programs, farming plays a central role in many American higher educational institutions. The criteria for selection was based on farm size, integration with the main campus, sustainability, courses taught at the farm, students usability with the farm, and integration with the community.

     Butte College ranked #5 out of 20, which is based on factors, including the size of the farm, the farm's integration with the main campus, how sustainable the farm is, whether courses are taught on the farm, whether students use the farm, and whether the farm is utilized by the community.

     The College features an 80-acre farm including an organic fruit orchard and a 6 acre organic vineyard. The institution has a long history of sustainable agriculture, offering training in sustainable agriculture, and establishing a portion of the farm as organic certified as far back as 1990. A number of student organizations including the Ag Ambassadors Club and the Symbiotic Solutions clubs augment the existing academic farm-based offerings.
